Sink My Ship

I would like to share some of my knowledge about sailing. In this context I'm gonna tell you guys about how in those days for claiming insurance ships were sunk and what remedies where taken for it. Any solid objects that floats has a relation with the density of the liquid below. As the density increases the object floats higher and as the density decreases the object slowly sinks under water. Same law applies for ships that float on watter. When a ship floats on a fresh watter its sunk below the sea level and when it enters the sea, the ship floats higher. If the weight inside the ship is found to be very low then the ship will raise high above the water once it enters the sea from the fresh water. This causes the meta center to fall off balance. Meta center is the stability determining factor for any ship. Ships of those days carry less weight in fresh water and sink the ship on sea water. This was done on purpose to claim insurance on older ships. It was over come lately with the help of a scale near the ship's deck.

Auotobiography of Kamal - Needed or not?

Every time I watch or read an interview of our legend Kamal, I am amazed by his knowledge on almost everything(he speaks about or he is involved in), his prowess at expressing thoughts and a lot of things I (and a lot others) have not known about him.
Especially after reading his recent interview for Inbox1305, this thought came in my mind so strong. An autobiography of Kamal Hassan is very much needed.
There are so many great things about our legend, which we didn't and don't know. One eg, isI have always wondered on his singing ability (esp while listening to songs like Sundari Neeyum of MMKR) , only while watching his interview on Kalaignar TV titled "Dasavathaaram Oru Avathaaram", i came to know that he was trained on classical music by the legendary Bala Murali Krishna.
Like the way he says that somebody should release the screenplays of (the legendary filmmakers like) KB's films in the form of books so that those great works dont go unabsorbed and also that future gen will benefit from that, I guess Kamal should start working on an Autobiography so that these wonderful things about him and his life are engraved, cherished and wondered by a wider audience .
If not an autobiography, since he has got a lot to experiment, learn, perceive and achieve in his life, he should probably write a book on his experiences at least.
PS: The intention of this post is to know what fellow Kamalians think about it and then most importantly, how to properly channelize our request to the right place.

Communication in Education

Education is all about communication – not only of hard facts
but also of thoughts and ideas and proposals on which to base
discussion and debate. A good teacher who can effectively
communicate facts, ideas and theories will turn out wellqualified
pupils, but there is one thing lacking in almost every
education system in the world, and that is teaching those pupils
how to communicate their thoughts to others. Young people
are simply not being prepared for what the world needs, or for
them to be able to achieve the success and enjoyment that are
available.
There is a common belief among educationalists that knowledge
is power. This is totally incorrect. Knowledge is not
power; it is potential power. We get paid for what we do with
what we know, not just for what we know. When we have
gained knowledge, what is most important is how we use it –
how we communicate it, or pass it on to others.
Consider the following statement: formal education has one
purpose only – to get people their first job. Self-education earns
them their living.
Initially, the truth of this statement may be difficult to accept.
Whether it is two individuals in a small organization or two
radical groups in an international conflict, if they don’t communicate
they will never resolve their differences.
However, although aspects of what we learn at school, college
or university enable us to get through our first interview, how
much of what we learn in our years of formal education do we
actually use later on in life? If we are honest, very little.

Named for Protestant Reformer !!

Calvin and Hobbes, named for Protestant reformer John Calvin and philosopher Thomas Hobbes, debuted in 1985, while Watterson was still

living in tiny Hudson, Ohio, where he was free to roam the streets anonymously. And though C&H was based on the high jinks of a devilish

6-year old, Watterson readily conceded that he had no special knowledge of children. He and his wife have none.

"Basically Calvin does what I'd like him to do, and a little of what I remember doing-or wish I could do-when I was a kid," Watterson told the

Philadelphia Inquirer in 1987.

Over the years, Watterson has grown more reclusive. He won't allow Universal Press Syndicate to release a photo of him. And he has never

joined the National Cartoonist Society. Twice, when the group selected him for its top award, the Reuben, he declined to show up.

Nonetheless, among cartoonists Watterson is highly respected for his strip, his talent and his chutzpah. Several years ago, when newspapers

began shrinking the space they allot to each comic, Watterson issued an ultimatum: run Calvin and Hobbes big or don't run it at all.

Outraged, a few papers dropped the strip, but the rest yielded to his demand.

Also, Watterson has stood virtually alone in refusing to license his characters. He explains why in a preamble in his latest collection of strips,

The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book.

Licensing, he writes, turns the cartoonist into a "factory foreman, delegating responsibilities and overseeing the production of things he does

not create. Some cartoonists don't mind this, but I went into cartooning to draw cartoons, not to run a corporate empire."

"I take great pride in the fact that I write every word, draw every line, color every Sunday strip, and paint every book illustration myself. My

strip is a low-tech, one-man operation, and I like it that way."

Why Area 51 is so secured??

Just an assumption,read on......
I think this is the only truth behind area51,well we all know that area 51 is one of the most heavily guarded facilities of the US and this is because the govt. is trying to hide something, something which can put USA in trouble.

Now lets go back to 60's, when US and USSR were engaged in cold war.USSR were far more ahead of the US when it came to arms and space race.In fact USSR space programs were highly successful than those of the US.The only way US could overtake USSR was by sending men to moon first. The bitter truth is that we never went to the moon and it was just a hoax!!.The entire picturisation of the moon landings was done in the deserts of area 51 which were coincidentally covered with craters also few sequences were shot in the hangars.

And the second assumption is that the US military are really using alien technology to enhance their arms resources,
a documentary shown on history channel showed that a guy named bob lazar has worked in area 51 and that too for alien aircrafts.he says that he has seen and operated an alien aircraft.Once he and few of his friends were near the area51 boundaries to see the mysterious lights. but they were spotted by the security guys. The next day lazar was warned by the authorities to never tell anyone about it with an M16 assault rifle aimed on his face,he was fired from work and the next day few men in a car tried to take his life. But he escaped!!!.This probably means that there truly is something extra-terrestrial in that area.

Cleopatra!

Cleopatra's story has fascinated scores of writers and artists through the centuries. While she was a powerful political figure in her own right, it is likely that much of her appeal lay in her legend as a great seductress who was able to ally herself with two of the most powerful men (Julius Caesar and Marc Antony) of her time

She later became the supreme ruler of Egypt, consummated a liaison with Gaius Julius Caesar, that solidified her grip on the throne, and, after Caesar's assassination, aligned with Mark Antony, with whom she produced twins. In all, Cleopatra had four children, one by Caesar (Caesarion) and three by Antony (Cleopatra Selene II, Alexander Helios, Ptolemy Philadelphus). Her unions with her brothers produced no children: it is possible that they were never consummated; in any case, they were not close. Her reign marks the final end of the Hellenistic Era and the beginning of the Roman Era in the eastern Mediterranean. She was the last Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt (her son by Julius Caesar, Caesarion, ruled in name only before Augustus had him executed).

After Antony's rival and Caesar's legal heir, Gaius Julius Caesar Octavian (who later became the first Roman Emperor, Augustus), brought the might of Rome against Egypt, it is said that Cleopatra took her own life on 12 August 30 BC, allegedly by means of an asp. Her legacy survives in the form of numerous dramatizations of her story, including William Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, Bernard Shaw's Caesar & Cleopatra, several films and the recent HBO/BBC series Rome.

Cleopatra was a direct descendant of Alexander's general, Ptolemy I Soter, son of Arsinoe and Lacus, both of Macedon. A Greek by language and culture, Cleopatra is reputed to have been the first member of her family in their 300-year reign

HANCOCK - my review

One of the best Will Smith movies ever. Besides some exciting action , the bang boom and the special effects HANCOCK's story line is pretty unique and fresh and as the movie comes to the end more and more life of hancock is revealed.

The first half is hilarious . Those one liners of Will were funny yet powerful. Will smith is simply perfect. He looks rugged but stylish at the same time.Almost a perfect acting again by Will . Charlize Theron with her beautiful moves does a good job.

The actors are so good in playing their own role and of course besides the movie there is always a job well done by the music director.Hancock's soundtrack was one of the most beautiful album i have ever heard. The music in the movie is just awesome and breath taking.I have seen the critics give this movie 2 and a half stars but from what i have seen i am going to give it 5 stars.

Good job hancock or should i say Will.
